Starting Sixth Form
Hello my lovelies, I hope you're all doing well!
Today's post is a bit of an update with what's going on in my life right now and just about starting sixth form really. As some of you may of seen from the 2 hauls I've recently posted then you'll know I started sixth form about 4 weeks ago.
The reason why I've waited this long to do an update about starting sixth form is because honestly, I didn't know what to write about when I first started but now, having been there for nearly 4 weeks I feel I have a sufficient amount to write about and to update you all on. I don't really know what to start with, so I guess I'll just start from the beginning and ramble through little bits and pieces that have made up my sixth form experience so far.
GCSE Results Day was on 20th August which is when I secured my place at sixth form. Months before I had applied to college for a Travel and Tourism course as well.To my surprise I did a lot better than I expected with my results so I decided to go to sixth form where I can get more qualifications and I met the grades required to be let in. I started sixth form on the 9th September and I can honestly say I am enjoying it. The A level subjects I have took are Health and Social Care, Law and Sociology, I had also taken History as an A level but I dropped the subject because I found the topics really boring and I just didn't like it at all.
Sociology and Health and Social are great and I am quite enjoying it (at the moment) but I am expecting the work load to increase as the weeks go on. In terms of Law, I picked the subject because I think it's interesting and is a good all rounder to have as an A level however, the circumstances of being taught Law isn't the best or ideal. Our sixth form didn't manage to get a teacher in to teach Law so they found an online tutor that we see for 2 hours a week. Being taught Law over webcam isn't how I expected it to be, but now we are into the swing of things Its not too bad and it is quite fun and interesting.
On 14th September our sixth form and 2 others went on a trip to a team building place where we had different activities where we had to work together to build things. Through the day we had 6 different activities which we collected points, which were used at the end to make a rocket. Our team came 3rd place and the day was really fun, however, it would of been better without the rain!
Up to yet I am enjoying Sixth Form and I honestly would recommend it to anyone thinking of going Sixth Form next year. It's so much different to secondary school, you get treated like a young adult and they respect you as an individual. Depending on the Sixth Form you go to the classes can be quite small which means you get a better understanding of what you are learning and have more chance of one to one attention. Some sixth forms are bigger than others and class sizes can vary, depending on how many people pick which subjects and how many people are in the actual sixth form. In my Sixth Form there are about 30 students and only about 12/13 of them are Year 12.
Another thing I will add and mention is that the jump from GCSE to A levels is pretty big, the work load increases so much more than it was in year 11 but you just have to remember that it'll all be worth it in the end! But remember, Sixth Form ISN'T for everyone!
In the near future I am going to do regular updates on how I'm feeling about Sixth Form, which may be about every 2/3 months depending on how much is going on.
I also am going to write more blog posts which are Sixth Form related like Revision Tips and other fun little posts.
I hope you enjoyed my little rant and ramble about myself starting Sixth Form and that it gave you a bit of an insight into life as a Sixth Former and what Sixth Form is like.
Be sure to leave me a comment telling me which year or grade you are in at school and your thoughts on Sixth Form or College if you go to one of them.
Love you all, I'll see you in my next one!
